Indian Horoscopes From Rajasthan – Ca 85 Yrs Old

These intriguing framed hand-painted Indian horoscope paintings originate from Rajasthan and date to the early 20th century, around the 1920s. Traditionally produced by astrologers or temple scribes, such works combine sacred imagery with handwritten astrological charts, reflecting the long-standing importance of astrology in Hindu spiritual and daily life.

The upper section features a stylised serpent coiling around a human profile, set against a carefully drawn astrological grid filled with Devanagari characters and numerical notations. Serpents are powerful symbols in Hindu cosmology and are often associated with protection, cosmic energy and divine guardianship. The lower panel depicts a radiant celestial face surrounded by a decorative circular halo composed of leafy motifs and astrological markings, reinforcing the connection between the human realm and the cosmic order.

Painted in soft natural pigments on paper and preserved within a simple wooden frame, the artwork is bordered by hand-drawn decorative lines that echo the appearance of traditional manuscript pages. Both visually striking and culturally evocative, it reflects Rajasthan’s rich tradition of astrological and devotional manuscript painting.
