Indian Iron Bound Teak Chest – 19thC

This Indian chest is made from teak wood and is iron bound. It was made in the 19th century as a chest and originates from Rajasthan. This bijou chest has delightfully delicate old lacquered feet. Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India. They were usually made from Teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood. They were used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewellery and cash. Our pieces are mostly from the 19th century & occasionally 18th and early 20th century.
