Sancai Glazed Terracotta Vessels From Yunnan

These rustic Sancai glazed terracotta vessels originate from Yunnan province in southwestern China, a region long associated with robust utilitarian ceramics made for everyday domestic use. Thrown in terracotta and finished with traditional glazes, each vessel has a strong, well-balanced form with twin loop handles and understated incised or painted detailing around the shoulder, reflecting a design language rooted in practicality and durability.

The surfaces display an appealingly timeworn character, with natural variations, glaze loss, firing marks, and areas of wear that speak to age, use, and the handmade nature of these pieces. Each example is subtly different, giving the group a rich individuality. Originally intended for storage or transport, these vessels now work beautifully as decorative objects or sculptural accents, either displayed individually or arranged as a collection.
